Christian Formation
Leader: Mike Salisbury

Christian Formation helps point us toward the essence of “living/being together” in a Christian community. It guides us in the process of living the Christian life.

At Emmanuel, Christian Formation includes: Adult Education, Children’s Christian Education, Youth Confirmation Class and the EEC Youth Group. It is my hope and goal that our programs serve to enrich and deepen our understanding of the Christian Faith and how to better live the Christian life.

Adult education offers a variety of programs some after church on Sundays and others during the week. For example during Lent we concluded a program entitled “The Last Week”. The Wednesday evening program explored what the Gospels really teach about Jesus’s final days in Jerusalem.  After Easter we did a Sunday series on the history of Sudan and the importance of Christianity in the lives of the Sudanese people.

Children’s Christian Education offers programs for young children 3-6 years old and for first through fifth grade boys and girls. Our Sunday School Director, Mary Kelly, has developed an exciting program for the kids. The little ones experience Montessori-based approaches to learning and the older kids use a lectionary based curriculum. Sunday School is always busy and fun.

The Youth Confirmation Class is a two year program that meets one or two times a month. The kids go through a great program called Confirm not Conform which teaches them that the decision to be a Christian and an Episcopalian is a choice that each person makes for themselves. The class covers other religions, the history of Christianity and the Episcopal Church.

The EEC Youth Group is a great place for kids in 8th grade or older to have fun and get to know each other better. The group goes on field trips and other outings but they also do service projects and help out around the church.

Christian Formation is always looking for people who are interested on serving on committees or helping with programs. If you are interested in helping please contact Michael Salisbury.
