Outreach

Mosquito Nets: Thanks to all of you, we have raised over $1800 for the purchase of mosquito nets to combat the spread of malaria in developing countries.  The Bishop’s challenge to each parish in the Diocese is to purchase one net for each Episcopalian in northern Illinois.  We have 515 baptized members – you do the math to determine our final goal!  We’re well on our way!  Many thanks to Linda Christianson and Lori Allison for coordinating our effort!

Food Pantry Ministry: Our neighbors at St. Eulalia’s parish in Maywood are asking for our continued support at Christmas so that the two hundred families they serve can enjoy a bountiful holiday.  Your contributions of non-perishable food items will be used to fill bags for their holiday dinner.  Your donations of gift cards from Jewel or Dominick’s will be used for the purchase of a ham or turkey for the family.  This year, you can find special gift tags on our holiday trees for these families as well.  Emmanuel’s community outreach efforts continue to expand with partnerships like this one with St. Eulalia.  Contact Jennifer Vince or the church office for more information about how you can help with this special holiday effort.

Lawrence Hall Christmas Giving Tree Opportunities: to give gifts to young people aged 14 to 21 years olds who live at Lawrence Hall Youth Services will be available again this year.  Tags will be available and on the gift trees on November 30; unwrapped gifts are due to the church on Sunday, December 14.  We are also sending along coffee cans filled with cookies to Lawrence Hall as a contribution to the holiday parties that they have for the students there.  See Sunday’s bulletin announcements for more details.  Ellen Busch 708/354-5847.

Primo Women’s Center Christmas Giving Tree: Our congregation will continue our tradition of giving Christmas gifts to the needy at the Primo Women’s Center for women and children at St. Barnabas in Chicago.  Tags will be on our gift trees beginning November 30th.  Gifts can be brought to the church by December 14th.  These gifts are to be unwrapped but be sure to attach the name tag.  Thank you for your generosity toward this worthy cause.  Shirley Mumford 708/354-9413

Parish Outreach
Lenten Learning Opportunities will focus on local outreach opportunities on Sunday mornings.  Ann Hileman is forming a new team to focus on the needs of our surrounding community and the chance for “hands on” service in LaGrange.  We will have guest speakers on March 8 and March 22 and an open meeting on March 29 to review all the opportunities in front of us.  Make plans to join as you can.

BEDS Plus, Inc.  Emmanuel is proud to be a host for the BEDS program each Wednesday.  A lunch and day program plus dinner and overnight sleeping accommodations are offered every week for our homeless neighbors.  Volunteers for the program – here and at other churches – are always needed as well as specific supplies.  Call Beth Tracy at the BEDS program office 708-354-0858 x2 or email at tracy@bedsonline.org for more information.
