Youth Christian Education

Sunday School, Emmanuel offers a religious education program for children from pre-school to confirmation age. This program is held at the church from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM almost every Sunday during the school year. Our program is staffed and facilitated by our parishioners who work in teams and rotate among different classrooms.

Emmanuel offers young children a “hands on” approach to Christianity, using music, art projects, drama, and even cooking to teach children about the tenets of our faith and the lessons of the Bible, in the hope that youngsters will view their religion as an integral part of their lives and experience.

Youth Confirmation Class, Our confirmation process takes place over a two-year period and involves classroom learning and discussion, visits to other churches and faith traditions and mission projects. At the end of this period, the class will be confirmed in late spring or early summer of 2011, most likely at St. James’ Cathedral in downtown Chicago. To enroll in the Youth Confirmation Class, please call the parish office. If you are interested in being part of the teaching team for this class, contact Reverend Terri.

Vacation Bible School, Emmanuel hosts a Vacation Bible School for area children in June. For one week, Emmanuel uses a familiar story and characters to illustrate Christian concepts and messages. Children’s Chapel, For those children who are too young to participate in the entire 10:00 AM liturgy, Emmanuel offers a children’s chapel during the first half hour of that liturgy service. Children hear the gospel in terms accessible to them. They then process into the Women’s Bible Study Our study of women who supported and influenced the ministry of the apostle Paul throughout Asia Minor and some of the scriptural references to women in Paul’s letters. We gather each Wednesday at 10:30am in the Conference Room.

Adult Education This Sunday, please join us after the 10:00am service for a presentation by Revered Terri entitled "Where did that Word come from?" - an exploration of the Revised Common Lectionary, the weekly selection of readings we use in our worship every Sunday, that replaced the selections in the Prayer Book.

Pastoral Care, Grief Support Group meets on Thursday afternoon, from 2:00pm until 3:30pm in the Conference Room, just off the main hallway. For some of our gatherings, we will bring in professional resources. At other times, we will just listen to each other’s stories and learn from each other in the context of a quiet and prayerful gathering here at the church.
